Whoopi Goldberg is talking up the guv

Amid the speculation and, let’s face it, bloviating regarding who gets the nod to be President-Elect Barack Obama’s secretary of state, no one seems to have noted that Gov. Bill Richardson has one of America’s favorite comedians — Whoopi Goldberg –  firmly in his corner.

Yes, that Whoopi Goldberg, she of ABC’s “The View” TV talk show, comedian extraordinaire and Oscar winner for her role in the long-ago film “Ghost.”

Goldberg, a fan of Richardson’s from way back, announced Monday on “The View” that if she had her way she’d like to see the president-elect choose the guv over Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to be his secretary of state nominee.

This is not the first time that Goldberg has demonstrated her affinity for Richardson. Asked during the presidential campaign, she told an interviewer she’d like to see then-Democratic presidential nominee Obama pick New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg or Richardson as his vice presidential nominee.

We’ll see if the president-elect is watching in Chicago.
