CD2: Tinsley’s residency questioned

Harry Teague, Democratic candidate in the 2nd Congressional District, is raising an interesting question — where does Ed Tinsley live?

According to the Associated Press:

Less than 24 hours after winning the Democratic nomination, Hobbs oilfield services businessman Harry Teague questioned Tinsley’s ownership of a home in Santa Fe’s upscale Las Campanas development.

"I would think that the people of the 2nd Congressional District would want their representative to live in the 2nd Congressional District. And he doesn’t," Teague said Wednesday.

Santa Fe is in the 3rd Congressional District.

"Our home is here," Tinsley told the Associated press Friday during an interview at his Lincoln County campaign headquarters. "We’ve lived here for the last 10 years. We spend most of our time here. But I will say this: We do have a second home."

The Albuquerque Journal, in its endorsement of Tinsley before the primary, described Tinsley as a "Capitan rancher, lawyer, sometime Santa Fe resident and regional restaurateur."

Tinsley’s residency also came up in the 2002 primary for the same seat. Tinsley lost that election to Steve Pearce who currently holds that seat, but is leaving the seat to run for the Senate.

Tinsley won this year’s Republican primary in a five-way contest. Teague won a narrow victory in the Democratic contest against Bill McCamley. Teague has served as a Lea County Commissioner.

The district is currently held by Pearce. Pearce is leaving the seat to run for the open Senate seat. Tuesday, Pearce won the GOP primary over Heather Wilson.
