Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, who was raised in New Mexico, is reportedly President-elect Barack Obama’s top choice as secretary for the federal Department of Homeland Security.
Much of New Mexico’s interest in the president-elect’s selection process has revolved around Gov. Bill Richardson, who is said to be on the short list for secretary of state. Obama has reportedly spoken with Richardson, but the guv also could be in the running for other posts.
But lo and behold Napolitano, who is in her second term as governor of Arizona, has apparently landed a Cabinet post. Napolitano spent much of her childhood in Albuquerque and is a 1975 graduate of Sandia High School.
