Roughly one quarter of University of New Mexico students are unimpressed with the state’s flagship public school, according to a survey that questioned college students about their higher education experiences.
In the U.S. Senate Republican primary, Heather Wilson has been attacked by outside interest groups who back Steve Pearce.
Included is the Susan B Anthony List, which has cut radio ads and sent out mailers attacking Wilson, whom it views as pro-abortion. But it turns out, according to the nonpartisan FactCheck.org, that many of the allegations in the ads are exaggerations if not outright lies.
FactCheck.Org says the Susan B Anthony List "runs afoul of the facts" in several instances. Two major examples:
- That she "voted for cloning that would create human embryos specifically to be destroyed for scientific research." Actually, she voted to make it illegal to clone humans; the bill did not address embryos.
- That she "voted to fund abortion providers." She actually voted against de-funding Planned Parenthood, which receives government grants for services like breast cancer screening and pregnancy and HIV testing – but not abortion.
A mailer from Steve Pearce that attacks both Wilson and Democrat Tom Udall, who is running unopposed in his party’s primary, uses the same assertions and touts his endorsement from National Right to Life.
FactCheck.Org is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. The nonprofit "aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics," according to the site.
