CD2: Richardson endorses Teague

By | 05.28.08 | 11:21 am

As reported by the Independent yesterday, Richardson was expected to endorse Harry Teague sometime this week. That sometime is today.

Former Lea County Commissioner Teague sent out a press release minutes ago announcing the support from the highly popular governor.

"Harry Teague is a successful businessman and community leader with moderate views who should be able to win the general election," Gov. Bill Richardson said in the press release. "I worked with Harry Teague to reinvigorate and diversify the economy in Lea County. I know Harry will use that experience to create jobs and represent the mostly rural communities of Southern New Mexico in Congress."

Already Lt. Gov. Diane Denish has backed Teague in his primary race against Doña Ana County Commissioner Bill McCamley in the 2nd Congressional District seat Democratic party primary.

"I am deeply honored to have the endorsement of Gov. Richardson, one of this country’s greatest leaders," Teague said in the press release. “I will fight everyday to continue in his tradition of getting real results for New Mexico. Whether it be his service as a congressman, cabinet secretary, ambassador or governor, Bill Richardson has a strong record of accomplishment that all Americans should be proud of. I am honored to have him as a friend and to have his support."

There is no announcement regarding a possible endorsement of Ben Ray Lujan in the 3rd Congressional District.
