CD2: McCamley Backed By Dean’s Democracy for America

The Bill McCamley campaign picked up a big endorsement that can help with fundraising from around the nation. Democracy for America, the group founded by Howard Dean in his run for the presidency in 2004, has endorsed 10 candidates for U.S. House and Senate throughout this election cycle.

The group has also endorsed four candidates for state office. All are Democrats.

"I want to really express an enormous amount of thanks to Democracy for America for the show of support," McCamley told the New Mexico Independent.

"This is a Republican-held open seat that we can win with this election," the e-mail announcing the endorsement reads, "but Bill has to face a self-funding oil man in the primary first."

McCamley is facing Harry Teague, who has loaned his campaign $700,000. tences)

DFA sent the e-mail to its "over 675,000 members nationwide" announcing the endorsement earlier today.

As of yet, McCamley’s name has not appeared on its list of endorsements. A big way in which DFA helps candidates out is by raising money. The e-mail announcing the endorsement included a link to a new ActBlue page for McCamley.

McCamley told the Independent the campaign raised more than $1,000 following the announcement of the endorsement.

"This is the beautiful thing about the Internet," McCamley said. "When a large amount of people give small amounts, it allows you to fight people who rely on big donations like my opponent."

ActBlue is, according to its Web site, "a federal PAC that enables anyone — individuals, local groups and national organizations — to fundraise for the Democratic candidates of their choice.

" All fundraising by ActBlue is done online; the Web site has raised more than $46 million for Democratic candidates since launching in 2004.

McCamley said, "We’ve been running a grassroots campaign since we got into this, and Democracy for America really embodies what a grassroots campaign is on a national level."
