Wilson again target of outside groups

By | 05.22.08 | 10:53 am

U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson has been getting hammered by outside groups in recent weeks. And it only looks like things are going to get worse in the final two weeks leading up to the June 3 primary as she competes against fellow U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce for the GOP Senate nomination.

A group called  Americans for Prosperity is running radio an ad attacking her on her pork-barrel spending.

The mission of the group is "educating citizens about economic policy and mobilizing those citizens as advocates in the public policy process." They have offices set up in many states, though New Mexico is not one of them. Much of the ad, currently airing on New Mexico radio stations, follows along the lines of a Club for Growth TV ad that targeted Wilson.

Americans for Prosperity were not available for comment.

That radio ad follows on the heels of another ad that began running Monday and is paid for by a pro-life group targeting her stance on pro-life issues.

The Susan B Anthony List says its "ultimate goal is to end abortion in this country" and has been targeting Wilson. The Susan B Anthony List Candidate Fund, the connected political action committee, endorsed Steve Pearce two months ago. And it has bought $30,000 worth of radio ads targeting Heather Wilson’s "anti-life record."

"Heather Wilson calls herself pro-life, but her voting record clearly shows otherwise. It is time Heather Wilson’s constituents learn the truth about her votes to spend dollars from the pockets of principled pro-life Americans to destroy human lives," said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser in the press release from the organization.

"From her support for Planned Parenthood, to approval of the deadly RU-486 abortion drug, Heather Wilson’s record is anything but pro-life."
