Outgoing Gov. Bill Richardson’s economic legacy is the subject of an interesting article in the Sunday Albuquerque Journal by Winthrop Quigley. Does Richardson have the magic touch, or has it instead been a case of the lucky breaks? New Mexico’s economy took off during Richardson’s tenure, but because global demand for energy was high during the past six years, Richardson never had to deal with a budget crunch, even though he slashed the top income rates in the state when he first entered office.

Also on the Richardson beat, Barry Massey points out in this Associated Press article that Richardson’s gig as Commerce Secretary could easily be confirmed within days of the inauguration.

The rollercoaster year we’ve had as consumers of gasoline isn’t over yet. In fact, a national survey released Sunday shows the price of gasoline has hit the lowest levels in five years. The national average for a gallon of gasoline on Friday was $1.75, down from the all-time high in July of this year, when the average hit $4.11 a gallon.

When you’re in Santa Fe and need to hop online, you can now access free internet service at all three libraries, the airport and convention center, plus a couple of recreation services.
