If you look out your window and you live in either central or northern New Mexico, you probably see snow. And that snow is causing trouble throughout the state.

Gov. Bill Richardson ordered state offices to close early — at 2 p.m. today. A statement says Ricahrdson also urges everyone to take extra caution on the roads during this snowstorm, which is forecast to last through Tuesday.

The Associated Press wrote that the New Mexico Transportation Department is reporting “difficult driving conditions throughout northern New Mexico.”

Ice and snowpacked spots were reported on N.M. 4 from San Ysidro to Los Alamos and throughout the Los Alamos area; U.S. 550 from San Ysidro to Lybrook; Interstate 40 between Moriarty and Clines Corners; Interstate 25 from La Bajada to Santa Fe and roads throughout the Santa Fe area; U.S. 285 from Tres Piedras to the Colorado line; and U.S. 84 between Santa Fe and Espanola.

Difficult conditions also are reported on roads in the Gallup, Grants, Cuba, Penasco and Taos areas.

If you want to keep track of what is open, what is closed and what is delayed, KRQE has a handy page to keep track of that. Or you can switch on your TV to any local station and watch the ticker at the bottom.

In other words, if you see snow out your window, then odds are the roads around you aren’t in the best shape, and you should use extreme caution.

And don’t expect things to get better soon. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning until 5 p.m. Tuesday for much of New Mexico.

I hope you have a large supply of hot chocolate and tea ready.
