Enough is enough of these so called non-partisan organizations getting away with fraud. They are what they are and should not be allowed to get away with PRETENDING they are something other than political. This is the dishonest kind of thinking that is the real legacy of the boomer generation.

proudrepublican,
Your comment is in error. The truth of the matter is that "these guys", i.e. the Center for Civic Policy, released their funding information back in August. As for the legal standard to which they should be held, the fact is that their disclosure went above and beyond the transparency required of them under the law.

See this:
http://newmexicoindependent.com/454/nonprofit-r...

As for "these guys" having "clearly crossed the line", that is precisely the point at issue. The Attorney General's office has adamantly refused to disclose how it determined what that "line" is, hiding behind an invocation of attorney-client privilege with the Secretary of State. In other words, it's a "secret" line.

The logic of the AG's stance is chilling to say the least. As it stands now, any individual or group witch whom this (or any future) Attorney General merely disagrees or takes a dislike, can henceforth be arbitrarily designated a "political committee" and fined -- and the AG can do this without presenting any reason or evidence. The implications of this are well worth pondering.

So I'm afraid the aroma you're detecting has another source. What we have here is a case of a powerful, entrenched State Senator -- a member of the Old Pols Club (Shannon Robinson) -- calling up the AG's office one day and demanding that it employ the power of the state to quash the free speech of an organization who dared to publicize the Senator's legislative voting record. The AG's office acted upon this request with uncharacteristic dispatch -- and did so without investigating the facts of the case.

Back in the day, we would would say that the Senator got a little "professional courtesy."

It is interesting that the people who claim to "report" the news are also working with these organizations and taking their money?????

These guys clearly crossed the line and influenced an election period. They should be proud of that and they should follow the law and register. What are they hiding? Why are they against telling people who they get their money from?

Unless you are ashamed of who is funding your organization, or the people funding you are ashamed of you or maybe just maybe the money you are getting is illegal or not being used for the purpose you sold your contributors on?

This stinks and these organizations should be held to the same legal standard everyone else is.
