John Fleck took a look at the possibility of a White Christmas here in New Mexico according to yesterday’s National Weather Service (NWS) forecast. Christmas, as you may know, is Thursday.
So what does the NWS forecast today for the weather on Christmas day in the Albuquerque area?
Christmas Day: A slight chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Thursday Night: A slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Veteran Albuquerque weather-watchers know that to mean, “Don’t hold your breath.”
Farmington? Not much better.
Christmas Day: A chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Thursday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
So what about the state capital, Santa Fe?
Christmas Day: A 10 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44.
Thursday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26.
And for good measure, Las Cruces.
Wednesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. West southwest wind between 3 and 7 mph.
Christmas Day: A 10 percent chance of showers before 11am. Partly cloudy, with a high near 57. West wind between 6 and 10 mph.
In other words, if you’re hoping for a white Christmas and you are in New Mexico, you may want to start hoping for 2009.
