Heath Haussamen has a column by New Mexico Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, who reflects on the past year and says goodbye to the “beardless governor”:
The accessory that made its first appearance during the legislative session finally was let go in the fall. The departure of the beardless governor to Washington D.C. to serve our nation with President Obama brings pride to New Mexicans and an unprecedented transition. I am honored to look forward to 2009 as New Mexico’s incoming governor.
A post modern Secretary of State?

Scot Key of ’Burque Babble informs us that he *finally* made the connection:
“I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to figure out that [Secretary of State Mary] Herrera is totally into the ironic feminist art scene and allowed commissioned [post-modern conceptual artist Cindy] Sherman to satirize the whole “Secretary of State” female objectification mindset,” says Key. Then he gets just a touch critical. Brilliant, Key says of Herrera. hmmm…
Well, all that aside, this is just one more entry in the lengthy book of Key’s own brilliance.
Where the Wild Things Are
In her Happy Holidays guest blog on Democracy for New Mexico, Julie Heinrich says her husband, Martin — who was just elected to represent New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District in Washington — will read “Where the Wild Things Are” to his kids via webcam when he’s in D.C. This is both warm and sad at the same time — it’s a great privilege to be elected, but it’s also a sacrifice when you have children.
