For the first time in New Mexico, and perhaps the nation, a person is being prosecuted for causing the death of an unborn child. The defendant killed a pregnant 29-year-old woman and has been charged with killing her unborn child, the Albuquerque Journal reports.
Also in the Journal, the mother of a slain 14-year-old girl says that teasing may have led to her daughter’s death at the hands of a 19-year-old man.
And in Las Cruces, the Sun News informs its readers about gangs. Police have flagged as many gang-related drive-by shootings in the last four months — 15 — as they reported in all of 2007, evidence that gang-related crime is up in Las Cruces.
