The Journal is, like most of the establishment media, essentially Republican, pro-business, and anti-government in its worldview (as noted this week in TPM by Josh Marshall). It must be maddening for the Journal's editors and publishers to have the net roots find and report out the Journal's many sins of omission.

Poor anti-boomer, baby fatt does so feel your pain. We boomers have made a holy wreck of the world, but be not afraid dear one, for we grow longer in the tooth with each passing day, and will one day (though I'm sure not soon enough for you) pass entirely from the scene (it's what actuaries refer to as 'the python swallowing the pig'). Bad news though: some boomers may take quite some time to remove themselves, owing to the long term effects of yoga and vegetarianism (the selfishness of it all!). But I'm sure that once the boomers have passed those who follow will be paragons of virtue (the return of humility--hooray!), and will finally be able to heal the world of all the boomer sins (baby fatt suspects this is this case after watching many hours of MTV--have you seen 'Double Shot of Love'?). Good luck.

Hello AntiBoomer,

I've been reading your comments lately. Welcome to NMI. You don't seem to like us that much, but that's okay. To this piece specifically, first--to be clear--this post shouldn't lead anyone to think I have anything against Minzer. I'm glad he wrote his letter--debate is not only good, it's enjoyable much of the time. But given the editor's note, it's also clear why its important to point out that Minzer is a lobbyist for multi-state corporations, since his letter was directly about potential legislation that would impact those corporations. In effect, that letter was simply part of his work--not as a former state rep, or chair of the House Tax and Rev committee, or Sec. of the Tax and Rev Dept., which is how the Journal identified him. The Journal didn't have to identify him at all--they chose to do so.

As to your final paragraph, I agree that every institution is full of people who bring their biases and ideology with them--newspapers included. About that we agree. That's not synonymous with dishonesty however. If that were the case, we'd have to agree that every person and every act is dishonest, by nature of being human. In any event, we could probably have a long discussion about that, or whether or not objectivity can really exist, but it would require you to drop your predisposition to paint me with a broad "you're completely wrong" brush at the outset.

What we have here is another attempt by the NMI aging boomers, their devotes and the bitter remnants of the Trib to create hit piece after hit piece on the Journal. Too bad no body cares. I like the the hit piece ended.

"What the Journal did not say, however,"

Which could have been any of the following.

What CNN did not say, however,
What Fox News did not say, however,
What the NMI did not say, however,
What the NYT did not say, however,
What CBS did not say, however,

Journalism is inherently dishonest. All journalists to one degree or another are Partisans who willingly and often with malice "cook the news" to fit their ideology. This is done by omission, selective presentation or outright lies. It is why in my opinion the degrees granted in journalism are good only for applying for a fry cook position.
