Tom Udall, Martin Heinrich, Harry Teague and Ben Ray Lujan — all Democrats — no longer have the suffix “-elect” behind their newly won titles.

After being officially sworn in today, we now have Sen. Udall, Rep. Heinrich, Rep. Teague and Rep. Lujan.

Sen. Udall was ceremonially sworn in by outgoing Vice President Dick Cheney, who serves as the president of the Senate. The representatives were ceremonially sworn in by the House leader, Nancy Pelosi, this afternoon.

This came after voting for the leaders of the House and Senate. In the House, all three new representatives voted for Nancy Pelosi; only Lujan was loud enough to be heard on the C-SPAN broadcast of the events, so maybe he will have to teach his fellow New Mexicans how to be heard from the back rows.

According to the Associated Press, “Udall was escorted into the Senate chamber for the inauguration by [Pete] Domenici and Democratic Senator Jeff Bingaman.”

Udall replaces Domenici, who retired for health reasons. Udall previously served in the House from New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District, where Lujan now serves. Heinrich replaces Heather Wilson, who lost to Steve Pearce in the Republican Senate primary. Pearce lost to Udall in the general election, clearing the way for Harry Teague in the 2nd Congressional District.
