We can be outraged by the corruption here, but the question in my mind still remains: Why did the NM legislature ever even allow for the investment of public money in hedge funds in the FIRST PLACE? It sounded cute to call this "diversification." But dumping your money into hedge funds is as stupid as buying stock on the margin. Odds are that you're going to lose.

The citizens of New Mexico are investors (tax payers) in state-controlled pools of money worth billions of dollars. We need to investigate the people who control these funds. We need to understand exactly how they make their decisions regarding the management of these funds. There are many good and decent civil servants in New Mexico; and there are some sharks, predators hunting power who see government service as an exercise in narcissism, who think nothing of selling access to our funds for 30 pieces of silver (but not a coin less!).
