Former Rio Rancho mayor in jail

Former Rio Rancho Mayor Kevin Jackson is in trouble with the law and has landed himself in a Pennsylvania jail, according to the Albuquerque Journal blog.

Jackson is in a Pennsylvania prison charged with violating a protection from abuse order filed by his wife. The former mayor was being held Monday at the Erie County Prison, in lieu of a $20,000 cash-only bond.

Charges against him include violating a protection-from-abuse order, burglary, criminal trespass and carrying a firearm without a license, according to a Pennsylvania State Police report.

The police report says Jackson pointed a semi-automatic pistol at his wife’s face “in an attempt to communicate and reconcile the relationship.” Jackson had entered the house through a basement window.

Jackson landed in hot water as mayor of Rio Rancho for numerous ethics problems. He was eventually forced to resign from the position in 2007, a little more than a year after taking office when allegations of misusing a city credit card and check fraud surfaced.
