National Public Radio aired a story from NPR member station KNAU on the controversial Desert Rock power plant that may be going up on the Navajo Nation in the Four Corners area.
The piece, aired on the station’s mid-day show, “Day to Day,” showed both sides of the debate. The supporters, including Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley, say it will be an economic boon to the cash-strapped and impoverished area. Those who oppose the plant include Elouise Brown, who say the plant would be just another pollutant in an area that already has two coal-fired power plants.
Brown is part ofthe opposition, including hosting the cause on Facebook.
The audio for the NPR story will be available around 1 p.m. New Mexico time.
Note: A previous version of this story said Brown wrote the Desert Rock blog. Dáilan J. Long, who does write the blog, wrote in to correct:
The Desert Rock blog (www.desert-rock-blog.com) is my blog, not Elouise Brown’s. She is not from my community (Burnham) and she is representative of Doodá Desert Rock elsewhere.
The blog clearly states Diné CARE and myself. Please be sure that this misinformation is corrected for future stories – my readership of thousands will be confused. Thank You.
We regret the error.
