Economic pessimism seems to have caught up to the state lottery. The New Mexico Lottery sales are down by 5 percent so far this fiscal year, the Las Cruces Sun-News reports.

A national organization focused on teacher quality says states aren’t doing enough to remove bad teachers, but notes that only Iowa and New Mexico require any evidence that public school teachers are effective before granting them tenure, reports the Associated Press.
