NRCC goes after newly elected Heinrich, Teague on stimulus bill

The National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) issued a press release today focusing on potentially vulnerable Democrats who voted for the economic stimulus package. Included in the 25 press releases were U.S. Reps. Martin Heinrich and Harry Teague.

Both freshman New Mexico Democrats took over for multi-term Republican representatives who ran for U.S. Senate instead of running for re-election.

Last week’s vote, which passed 244-188 despite every Republican voting against the bill, was on the $819 billion stimulus backed by President Barack Obama.
From The Hill:

“Even [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) acknowledges that this massive trillion-dollar spending bill is so big and bloated with wasteful spending that it cannot possibly be labeled ‘fiscally responsible,’” Ken Spain, the NRCC’s communications director, said in the statement. “It is becoming increasingly difficult for [this lawmaker] to defend his [or her] vote for a trillion-dollar spending package over delivering actual solutions for struggling middle-class families.”The Republicans have claimed that their competing stimulus package would create more jobs at a cheaper rate. Of course, the Democrats countered that the Republican plan would actually raise taxes for many Americans.

The bill is now awaiting a vote in the Senate.
