Secretary of State’s lobbyist Web site is down — webmaster not sure when it will be back up

The Roundhouse may be awash in a sea of lobbyists, but good luck finding out who they are or how much they’re spending.

NMI’s Trip Jennings reported in January that there were already 500 lobbyists and 600 lobbyist organizations registered for the 2009 session. And, he said, the secretary of state’s office expects more than 1,000 lobbyists will be registered before it’s all over.

The secretary of state’s Web site is supposed to have a searchable database of lobbyists, the organizations they work for, plus a searchable database of lobbyists’ reports. But the site is down. And the secretary of state’s webmaster, Angel Espinosa, told the Independent she can’t say for sure when it will be back online.

In the meantime, if you want to see what kind of money state legislators are floating in, you can call the secretary of state and ask for personal help.
