TODAY’S TOP STORIES: Attorney charged with vehicular homicide

The attorney who struck and killed a pedestrian in Santa Fe the day before Thanksgiving was charged with vehicular homicide Wednesday, the Santa Fe New Mexican reports.

Also from the New Mexican, a Santa Fe retiree is ensnared in Bernie Madoff’s investment scheme.

Meanwhile, alleged sexual improprieties are behind the suspension of a teacher and principal at Robertson High School in Las Vegas, the Albuquerque Journal reports.

For those of who don’t subscribe to the Journal and can’t get past the link, here’s an excerpt of the story:

Teacher Jay Quintana is accused of sexually assaulting a student for years and principal Richard Lopez is accused of harassing a woman who applied for a teaching position.

The allegations against Quintana appeared in a tort claim notice sent to the Las Vegas, N.M., school district last month. Such notices are used to signal an intent to file a lawsuit.

Quintana and Lopez were placed on paid administrative leave last week, but no reasons were given at the time.

Their suspensions come after months of turmoil at Robertson over another case involving allegations of sexual impropriety — criminal charges against six former football players accused of using a broomstick to sodomize teammates at a summer training camp. The entire football coaching staff resigned after the allegations surfaced in August.
