While I’m sure she’d rather be rid of the “Lt” that precedes the rest of her title, Lt. Gov. Diane Denish doesn’t seem to be slowing down since she almost got that automatic promotion to the governor’s chair. She’s an active presence at the Roundhouse this year, promoting a package of bills alongside several Democratic legislative leaders. It’s safe to say she’s still got her sights on that bigger suite of offices on the state Capitol’s 4th floor.

While acknowledging her disappointment over Gov. Richardson withdrawal from his nomination to be U.S. commerce secretary last month, it’s clear that Denish isn’t wallowing in self-pity. Instead, she’s presiding over the state Senate — and in the interview noting that she differs with the governor over a proposed multi-million-dollar equestrian facility that came before the Senate yesterday.
Denish also dishes about actor Val Kilmer — her would-be opponent in next year’s race for govenror — as well as the package of bills she’s pushing during this year’s legislative session.
