Ex-Sen. Pete Domenici’s records subpoenaed in U.S. Atty firing probe

The David Iglesias firing is the scandal that just won’t go away for former Republican U.S. Senator Pete Domenici. The Associated Press is reporting that Domenici has had his records subpoenaed by federal investigators in relation to the firing of Iglesias in 2006.

The investigation, headed by federal prosecutor Nora Dannehy, is looking into whether Alberto Gonzales, the former U.S. attorney general, and others in the Bush administration should face criminal charges as a result of the firing of U.S. attorneys throughout the nation, including Iglesias.
From the AP story:

The grand jury subpoena for some of Domenici’s records has been confirmed by two private attorneys who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not representing the former senator.

Domenici made phone calls in 2005 and 2006 to complain about Iglesias’ conduct. Domenici also reportedly made phone calls to Iglesias himself, as did former U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson.

Wilson, also a Republican, was involved in a hotly contested race with Democrat Patricia Madrid for the Albuquerque-based 1st Congressional District seat at the time.
