A study by Christina Romer, chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, and Jared Bernstein, chief economist for the vice president, outlines the expected job growth from the stimulus package, which could create or save 22,000 jobs in New Mexico.

The study says, “Jobs created will be in a range of industries from clean energy to health care, with over 90% in the private sector.”

The study shows that the three congressional districts could each receive or save over 7,000 jobs from the stimulus package. The 1st Congressional District could gain an additional 7,700 jobs, the 2nd could benefit by 7,100 jobs and the 3rd could get an additional 7,500 jobs. All three members of New Mexico’s congressional delegation voted for the stimulus package.

Some factors in the estimates included “detailed estimates of the working age population, employment, and industrial composition” of both the state as a whole and each congressional district individually.
