Joe Monahan writes today that Mayor Martin Chavez has finally addressed the idea that Albuquerque is, in fact, in a recession.
Mayor Marty trusts that the city’s stimulus funding will decrease the unemployment rate. Joe also discusses relatives in office, with the longest-running pair as Ben and Ben Ray Lujan. Rumors that Papa Lujan is set to retire, after seeing his son make it to office, have been dispelled.

In another Reeper blog, there’s talk of “radicals and revolutionaries” in regard to the current economic situation, and some folks who are seeking to create a huge community garden in preparation for The Greater Depression that looms before us.
WhirledView posts a really interesting piece about a nonprofit (noncommercial) gallery exhibit. She reviews the idea of access and the politics of art galleries as controlled by more powerful organizations.
It’s a little bit of a slow news day, folks, as our friends at Wonkette have noticed. On this Presidents’ Day, our Wonkette links to the 2009 C-SPAN Historians Presidential Leadership Survey.
The survey’s shocking result? Abe Lincoln’s top ranking as America’s favorite president is unchanged from 2000. Least favorite prez? James Buchanan. I know, I know, where is W? He’s six spots up from the bottom, with more leadership (?) than Andrew Johnson, Franklin D. Pierce, William Henry Harrison, Warren G. Harding and Millard Fillmore.
So…he’s got that going for him.
