ABQ Journal Managing Editor Karen Moses takes on new marketing gig

Smart move or much ado about nothing? You decide.

NMI has learned that Albuquerque Journal Managing Editor Karen Moses will be moving to the Albuquerque Publishing Company’s (APC) marketing department for three to six months. There she will serve as the go-between for the news side and the publishing side of APC’s trademark publication.

According to one reliable source with the state’s largest newspaper — where I once worked — Moses will be charged with revamping the Journal’s marketing efforts, drawing on her insider knowledge of the news content produced each day.

Another source says she’ll keep one foot in the newsroom, even as her focus turns to marketing and promotion just down the hall from the newsroom in the APC offices.

If Moses, who got her start with the Journal many years ago as a copy editor, can figure out how to better market the good work produced by the newspaper’s many talented reporters, I imagine she’ll be in line for a well-deserved trip to Hawaii on publisher T.H. Lang’s Falcon jet.

Or maybe not.

Either way, we’ll be watching.
