Democratic candidate Martin Heinrich is the first candidate up with a TV ad in the race for the House in New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District. Heinrich writes on his official campaign blog that the ad is "in heavy rotation."
The ad features the candidate himself speaking to the camera, including a criticism of President George W. Bush. "When it comes to the war, economy and gas prices, George Bush has been a disaster," Heinrich says in the ad.
Heinrich also touches on the war in Iraq with the opening of the ad. The opening of the ad shows children sitting in a classroom, and Heinrich says the children "haven’t experienced a single day where we’re not at war or not in a recession."
The Republican candidate in the race is Darren White.
Television ads have been aired in the race previously, but by special interest groups from both sides, not by the candidates themselves.
