What is it with elected officials named “Martin” and speeding tickets?

U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich joined Albuquerque Martin Chavez, both Democrats, in the category of elected officials from the Duke City who got speeding tickets this year. Chavez got his ticket on Jan. 30 near Tesuque. Heinrich was caught Feb. 2 on Lead Avenue near Sycamore Street. He also was cited for not having proof of insurance.
Heinrich was equally fast in paying the ticket.

The citations were written at 10:20 a.m. At 4:30 p.m., he walked into Metropolitan Court with proof that he had auto insurance. The clerk dismissed the insurance citation. Heinrich pleaded guilty to the speeding ticket and paid a $74 fine.

In 2001, Heinrich was cited for driving without a seatbelt.
