This full contact sport is a shame to the human race. MMA belongs with cockfighting, dog fighting, sword fighting, and should be banned. Who wants to see kids in their community replicating these fighters in street matches? Hitting a man while he is on the floor is simply barbaric and wrong for many reasons.

The opponents of MMA are very likely proponents of statistically less safe sports, such as boxing, college and professional football, etc. Not to mention the probability that they are backed by industries competing with MMA for "markets" (fans).

I am a professional and have been involved in UFC at many levels. The fact is that this is a highly skilled sport requiring the highest level of athleticism and conditioning - more than any existing competitive sport. The participants are focused and respectful. It is not a "bloodsport" - injuries do happen, but they are typically not the severity of football or rugby.
If the purpose of the bill is to protect the participants, then it's completely misplaced. These individuals have made a conscious decision to get involved in an activity requiring a considerable commitment to the sport before they can step into the ring to compete. This is no longer the free-for-all fighting that many people recall from a decade ago... Strict rules have been adopted that protect the fighters and maintain the consistency of the sport.
To the extent that the government wants to protect minors, then perhaps Jennings should consider simply restricting admission at sanctioned events to adults. That seems consistent with restricted access to violent films and other activities deemed unsuitable for children.

I would have thought more MMA fans read this site. New Mexico not only has some of the best MMA schools, it has some of the best fighters. I am a fan of the sport and know many other fans. Diego Sanchez, Keith Jardin and other fighters have huge fan bases. I will post the news on their sites and see what happens.
