ACLU uses YouTube to argue its case on domestic partnerships

One group in favor of domestic partnership legislation has taken a creative route in advocating for the legislation in New Mexico. The American Civil Liberties Union has created several short videos of New Mexicans explaining why they would benefit from domestic partnership.

In this one, a straight, elderly woman explains, in Spanish, why she and her partner of more than 30 years want to become domestic partners. “Now that we finally want to get married, Social Security tells me that our benefits will be greatly reduced,” Julia Jones says. If the couple married, she explains, they’ll each lose $500 per month.
