It seems that much of the talk on the blogs these days isn’t about Barack Obama’s speech — but about the response given by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. And the response to the response wasn’t very, well, good.
Before that, though, SFReeper blogs, “Yesterday, the gossip site TMZ reported that Northern Trust, also a major beneficiary of the federal bank bailout, spent millions of dollars sponsoring a golf tournament at a Los Angeles country club.” Who is Northern Trust?
Northern Trust, the Chicago-based bank that handles billions in assets for the state of New Mexico, back in January.
We told you how the bank has given tens of thousands of dollars to Gov. Bill Richardson’s campaigns, and got its state contract after Richardson took office.
We told you how State Investment Officer Gary Bland thinks “Northern Trust is not doing an adequate job.”
As for all of the talk about Jindal’s speech, Comedy Central’s Indecision blog said this is “[b]ecause it’s a lot easier to make fun of a train wreck than to make fun of a train that pretty much arrives when you thought it would but maybe smelled a little bit like salami.”
Alex Leo at the Huffington Post said Jindal sounded like Kenneth the Page from the NBC sitcom “30 Rock.”
Even a blogger at the conservative blog RedState said “the consensus among my circle of friends is that Gov. Jindal did not do a great job of delivering his speech. I think we have bipartisan consensus that President Obama’s delivery was better than Governor Jindal.” But Brian Darling offered a ray of hope:
The bottom line is that Governor Jindal may not have made all the arguments that conservatives wanted to hear, but he did map out an alternative vision for the economic future of our economy and a starkly different perspective on the proper role of the federal government.
Locally, M-Pyre noticed that Republicans were looking down. It could have been the Republicans were just twittering.
NewMexiKen notes that Obama got a 92 percent approval rating on the speech. That’s not a typo.

Former Albuquerque Mayor Jim Baca will be in DC for some business. In addition to that, he blogs, “I will be meeting with our new congressmen to brief them on some work we must do with Los Alamos National Labs, DOE and the Justice Department.”
