Lt. Gov. Denish officially gets backing of local film union

The Diane Denish gubernatorial campaign announced the official endorsement of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts Local 480.

In a statement, New Mexico’s Democratic lieutenant governor said that she is “honored” to receive the endorsement.

“New Mexico’s film industry is an important part of our state’s economy,” Denish said. “Strengthening and expanding the film industry will create jobs and help get New Mexico’s economy moving again.”

This is an important symbolic announcement — indications point to a primary against actor Val Kilmer. Kilmer has lived on a ranch in New Mexico for years, and has been considering a run for governor.

He has hired a prominent public relations firm whose clients include the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, a governor, two members of Congress and the League of Conservation Voters.
