Eclipse Aviation bankruptcy effects felt as far as Japan

The local effects of the failure of Albuquerque-based Eclipse Aviation have been well-documented. The hundreds of layoffs have hurt the economy; politically, some feel it would be a black eye to Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez, who has championed the company.

But the effects of the Eclipse bankruptcy are being felt as far as Japan, according to Bloomberg.

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the maker of Subaru-brand cars and plane parts, widened its loss forecast after writing off components supplied to bankrupt aircraft-maker Eclipse Aviation Corp.

Fuji supplied wings to Eclipse, and because of Eclipse’s bankruptcy, Fuji has a net loss of $233 million. This led Fuji to announce it would not pay its year-end dividend for the first time in 14 years.

Just goes to show that this truly is a global economy.
