A truckload of three large containers of nuclear waste left Oak Ridge, Tenn., today heading for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad. Oak Ridge is known as Atomic City for being one of the home bases for the Manhattan Project. The city’s Y-12 Plant enriched the uranium that would later be used in the bombs Little Boy and Fat Man that were detonated over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, respectively, at the end World War II.

According to Knoxnews.com, there are to be dozens more shipments.
