Former Albuquerque Tribune Editor Phill Casaus has landed another job — this time at Albuquerque Public Schools. Casaus has been named executive director of the Albuquerque Public Schools Education Foundation.

“We are fortunate to have someone like Phill heading the foundation with its mission to support the educational goals of APS,” district superintendent, Winston Brooks, is quoted as saying in a news release. “His deep roots in this community and his strong ties to the school district will prove beneficial as he advocates on behalf of our kids.”

Most recently Casaus was a senior editor for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver. That paper printed its final edition on Feb. 27. Before that, Casaus was at the Albuquerque Tribune for five years. That paper printed its final edition on Feb. 23, 2008.

“Though as a journalist I was sometimes critical of policies or decisions made by the district, I have always believed in the APS mission to make a real difference in the lives of its students,” Casaus said in the statement.
