Former New Mexico Senate powerhouse Manny Aragon is headed to prison for 67 months (five and a half years), followed by three years of probation, various news sources are reporting.
Aragon pleaded guilty in October to three federal felony counts of conspiracy and mail fraud after skimming money off of the construction of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Courthouse in Albuquerque.
Aragón will also need to pay nearly $2 million in restitution and fines, according to KRQE.
From the Associated Press:
Aragon , an Albuquerque Democrat who served in the Senate for 29 years, offered a rambling 20-minute speech, and then broke into tears, before being sentenced by U.S. District Judge William P. Johnson.
KRQE reports that co conspirator Raul Parra will be sentenced later this afternoon. Parra also pleaded guilty to charges related to the Metro Courthouse scandal.
