At a press conference held by the governor yesterday regarding the plight of Santa Fe College, Speaker of the House Ben Lujan continued his criticism of Sen. John Arthur Smith.
As reported in the Santa Fe Reporter’s blog, Lujan blamed Smith for holding up a bill that would have saved the college from closing at the end of the spring semester. Smith’s actions he said, were “undemocratic and un-American.”
From SFReeper.com:
House Speaker Lujan … echoed the Governor’s disappointment that HB 577 was held up in the Senate Finance Committee, pointing the finger at SFC chairman John Arthur Smith saying it is “undemocratic and un-American for one person to deny the community to be heard.”
Of course, one has to wonder if Lujan would say that about every bill that never made it past the finance committee. Or some of the House committees, for that matter.
Then there’s the matter of those amendments slipped into bills at the last minute, containing provisions substantially similar to bills that had previously failed to make it past a floor vote. Lujan previously called Smith a racist, after Smith called Lujan out for doing just that.
