Teague urges fire departments to apply for FEMA assistance grants

Today, in a release, U.S. Rep. Harry Teague announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is now accepting applications. The southern New Mexico Congressman also urged fire departments in his community to apply for the grants.

“In many small and rural communities, fire departments are first responders. This funding can help them better protect lives and property,” Teague is quoted as saying. “I encourage fire departments throughout southern New Mexico to apply for these FEMA grants.”

These competitively awarded grants can be used by fire departments to improve the effectiveness of firefighting and emergency response operations and to improve firefighter health and safety programs.

The application period ends on May 20, 2009. So fire departments in Teague’s congressional district and around the state have plenty of time to apply for the grants.
