Former U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson was awarded the National Intelligence Superior Public Service Medal yesterday, according to the Los Alamos Monitor.
Wilson served in Congress for a decade — from June 1998 until January of this year — and was a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Wilson also served on the House Armed Services Committee during her tenure, where her successor, Congressman Martin Heinrich, now serves. Her positions in the Armed Services Committee included serving as the chair and ranking member of the Subcommittee on Technical and Tactical Intelligence.
“This award recognizes Congresswoman Wilson’s years of service to both our nation and to the Intelligence Community,” Director Dennis Blair of National Intelligence said in a news release. “Her support, insight and dedication have transformed our community to meet today’s new intelligence challenges.”
“Intelligence is our Nation’s first line of defense,” Wilson said in accepting the medal, according to the Monitor. “I want to personally thank the men and women who serve in the Intelligence Community. It is this Community that has not only kept my family safe, but our entire country safe.”
