TODAY’S TOP STORIES: Money for ABQ city employee pay raises — and N.M.’s national parks

Despite the tough economic times, over 2,000 ABQ city workers will be receiving pay raises.  A $1M surplus was found in the transit department and will translate into raises for bus drivers, garbage collectors and street repair workers.  No everyone is happy, though — see why here.

According to a report in the Las Cruces Sun-News today, stimulus funds are making their way to New Mexico’s  national parks  — to the tune of $8M.

And lastly, Sandia National Labs and Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari are teaming up to develop new technology for wind energy.  This is exciting news for the school, as large projects like this one would be awarded to larger research universities.  The project will work toward the U.S. Department of Energy’s goal of deriving 20 percent of our nation’s energy from renewable sources by 2030.
