GOP guv hopeful Greg Zanetti campaigns in Clovis

The campaigning has already begun. No, not for the 2009 Albuquerque mayoral race, but for the 2010 gubernatorial race.

National Guard Brigadier General Greg Zanetti stopped by Clovis yesterday and did a bit of campaigning — and talking to the Clovis News Journal about the economy, energy, education and water.
Right now the economy is on nearly everyone’s mind. Zanetti said, of the state economy, “What we need from the governor is someone who understands money, someone who understands investments and maybe a fresh face people can trust.”

On water, another extremely important issue in New Mexico, the conservative Republican said, “I think water shouldn’t hold us back and shouldn’t be used as a political weapon.”

One mistake from the Clovis New Journal, though. They write, “Thus far, no others have announced for the position in either party.”

The current Lt. Gov., Diane Denish, has said she is running. In fact, the Democrat from Hobbs told CQ Politics in January, “There are very few certainties in politics, but one thing I’m sure of is I’m running for governor in 2010.”
