Yet another update in the potential College of Santa Fe lifeline  – the Santa Fe City council has approved an initiative to begin negotiating with CSF creditors.  The Santa Fe New Mexican lays out all the details.

KLUZ reports on the Albuquerque Public Schools’ preparations for a possible swine flu outbreak.

In other swine news, KOB-TV is reporting that former ABQ Mayor Ken Schultz has been sentenced to five years on probation for pocketing tax payer money during the same kickback scheme that landed Manny Aragon in prison.

Also, the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals is making supporters of protecting Otero Mesa very happy today.  The court’s ruling was based on the argument that the current Bureau of Land Management’s oil and gas drilling plan for the area did not protect Otero Mesa or the Salt Basin Aquifer.  Companies that have been test-drilling in the area have increased their efforts in Texas where the courts may be more to their liking, according to the New Mexico Business Weekly.

Meanwhile, the Las Cruces Sun-News is reporting on President Obama’s plan to crack down on employers knowingly hiring illegal workers.

And, the Farmington Daily Times brings us the news of a raid in Bloomfield that yielded over 1,000 birds allegedly used for cockfighting.  If substantial evidence can prove these birds are in fact part of a cockfighting ring, they could be seized and possibly destroyed.
