TODAY’S TOP STORIES: Marching for immigrant rights in ABQ, and more local H1N1 flu fallout down south

New Mexico’s major Spanish-language local TV news (KLUZ) is reporting on the preparations being made for the annual pro-immigration march set to happen on May 10th in Albuquerque.  Supports seek comprehensive immigration reform.

Meanwhile, Santa Fe is gaining 10,000 acres.  The Santa Fe New Mexican explains the municipal annexation and tells how it will affect taxes and water rights.

According to a report in the New Mexico Business Weekly, the new GI Bill takes effect today.

And, we’d be remiss not to mention the two stories blowing up the news this morning on almost every local outlet:

The week-long closure of 14 schools in the Socorro and Lordsburg districts due to worries of the H1N1 — a.k.a. swine — flu.  Carlsbad High and Deming Intermediate School will also close. And the New Mexico Activities Association has also suspended all upcoming athletic and activity programs.
