The star of the night will be New York senator and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, but Ben Ray Lujan had his moment in the sun at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday afternoon.

Sure, most of the attention was on the center of the stage and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair Chris Van Hollen, but Lujan was on stage with just seven other candidates.

With these words from Van Hollen, Lujan took four steps forward and had his few seconds of fame.

The New Mexico delegation waved New Mexico flags when Van Hollen got to Lujan, causing Van Hollen to pause and acknowledge the raucous reaction from the small delegation. Lujan had no words in this play and acknowledged the attention with a wave.

Sharing the stage with Van Hollen and Lujan were New Jersey’s John Adler, Illinois’ Debbie Halverson, Florida’s Joe Garcia, Florida’s Raul Martinez, Florida’s Christine Jennings and Minnesota’s Ashwin Madia.

"These are just a few of the 50 outstanding candidates for change that are running across the country from Alabama to Alaska, from New York to New Mexico, and right here in the great state of Colorado," Van Hollen told the crowd of delegates, press and volunteers. "We must succeed, because if we make the right choice this election, it will mean a new direction for America and the world for years to come."

The enthusiastic New Mexico delegation warmed up by dancing to the music of the house band, while waving miniature versions of the state flag. They also discussed decorating the sign showing where the New Mexico delegation sat, with an obvious inspiration; 20 feet away, the Hawaii signpost was decorated with fake plants and flowers.
