Actor Val Kilmer ‘probably not’ going to run for N.M. governor

Val Kilmer, who is now in Washington D.C. for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, was caught on camera by Politico reporter saying that he is “probably not” going to run for governor in 2010 (in New Mexico, though the Politico blog post originally said Montana).

“Can I call you governor?” Tammy Haddad, who hosted a brunch before the Correspondents’ Dinner asked Kilmer in the video.

“No,” Kilmer responded.

“Are you going to run,” she asked.

“No… probably not,” Kilmer said.

Kilmer will be a guest of CNN at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the Chicago Tribune’s The Swamp blog reports.

Not to be outdone, CNN pulls Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Val Kilmer, Kyra Sedgwick, Brad Cooper, Tyra Banks and Homeland Security’s [Janet] Napolitano — note which name is last.

Kutcher will be live tweeting the proceedings to his 1.6 million followers.

If Kilmer does not run, which seems likely from this video, that could lead to an unopposed Democratic primary for Lt. Gov. Diane Denish.

On the Republican side, National Guard Brigadier Gen. Greg Zanetti is in the race while former Republican Party of New Mexico chairman Allen Weh formed an exploratory committee and state Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones is reportedly looking at a run.

Former U.S. Reps. Steve Pearce and Heather Wilson are also reportedly considering runs on the Republican side.
