There are 13 new laboratory confirmed cases of the H1N1, or “swine,” flu today, according to the New Mexico Department of Health. That brings the total number of confirmed cases to 44, spread across 11 different New Mexico counties.
There are also two more probably cases of the H1N1 flu for a total of five probable cases.
There have not been any deaths in New Mexico as a result of the H1N1 flu, and the cases range from a one year old to a 57 year old; but the average age of the confirmed cases is 16.
The breakdown of cases by county in New Mexico is as follows:
Bernalillo (6), Doña Ana (5), Eddy (8), Grant (1), Hidalgo (10), Luna (4), Sandoval (3), San Juan (1), Sierra (1), Socorro (6) and Valencia (4)
Grant and San Juan counties reported their first confirmed cases today.
Overall, according to the Centers for Disease Control, there are 2,600 cases in 44 states and three deaths from the H1N1 flu.
By state, it appears the heaviest concentrations are not uniform — while Washington state has 128 confirmed cases, bordering Oregon has just 17 and Idaho just a single case. And New York state has 170 confirmed cases, but New Jersey just seven.
