As President Obama narrows his search for a new associate justice for the U.S. Supreme Court, the Albuquerque Journal has a flattering profile of New Mexico’s top contender – chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, Martha Vázquez.
The 15-year veteran of the federal bench appears quite demur in the story, and she’s got experience to spare plus a compelling personal story. Maybe best of all, while this daughter of immigrants has been touted as a potential pick in some national news outlets, she’s far from overexposed relative to other potential supremes being mentioned.
Meanwhile, the Santa Fe New Mexican follows up on the fight between the Wall Street Journal and New Mexico Attorney General Gary King over so-called “pay-to-sue” allegations.
In Farmington, the city has reportedly spent $45,000 to provide low-income households with money-saving opportunities to conserve electricity usage — yet the program goes generally unused. The program offers free energy-efficient light bulbs to those who qualify, causing plenty of speculation over why participation in the program is low.
