A Gallup poll released today reveals that President Obama’s average approval ratings in May are higher than his three most recent predecessors’ were, but not as high as those earned by Reagan, Kennedy and Eisenhower. Kennedy was the most popular, with a 77 percent rating in the spring of 1961.
Obama has had the backing of between 62 and 66 percent of Americans since taking office in January, but he has seen a slight increase in the last month. Most recent presidents (again, with the exception of Reagan) have seen their popularity decline slightly after inauguration. What does it mean? Obama is still “honeymooning,” according to Gallup.
