The Green Party is strongly in favor of replacing drug prohibition with a sane drug policy. Marijuana should be legalized and taxed, and drug addiction should be treated as a health problem, not a criminal justice issue. Prohibition only provides huge profits for organized crime.

Last I heard of a Green campaign in New Mexico, a very smart gentleman named Rick Lass lost a regulation commissioner race to a Democrat named Jerome Block. How's Block working out for y'all?

I think you are correct, Brigette, in what you wrote. But that doesn't mean the minor parties are worthless.
Imagine, for example, if the GOP listened to libertarian views on foreign policy; we might have avoided the disasters of Bushian imperialism.
Or if the GOP (and Democrats) borrowed the libertarian approach to the use of now-illegal drugs. Surely, the War on Drugs makes our war on Iraq look successful by comparison.
Sadly, the libertarians have influence only on the economy, where they're, oh, about three items short of a four-item combo plate.
And I wish the Democrats would borrow not only policy but backbone from the Greens.
Arthur Alpert

I don't think the US will ever be a multi-party country the way parliamentary nations like Israel are. Our system just isn't set up to favor coalition government, and most Americans see a third party vote as a vote thrown away -- or worse, since if you're a Republican and vote Libertarian, you're essentially voting Democratic, and if you're a Democrat voting Green, you're essentially voting Republican.

I realize that if everyone started thinking outside the box and voting their conscience, this wouldn't be the case, but it's like a game of political chicken and no one wants to be the first to throw their party (GOP or Dem) under the bus.

Our narcissistic young president, who fancies himself a prince and messiah, is working overtime to bankrupt the country when he is not agreeing with our enemies about how everything in the world is America's fault. We will be lucky if we have a country in two or three years that is above the level of the third world. Most likely we will be in a major depression that will last for decades expect change in the form of riots, violence and perhaps a civil war. America has rotten from within and on a non stop path to description thanks to Progressives, Democrats and Republicans. Three groups that are at war with America. Arthur, your narcissistic generation has brought to where we are today.

Libertarians: Legalize drug use and prostitution.

Well, that's a winner for the problems that confront America today.

I don't think a Libertarian candidate holds a national office anywhere in the nation or has done so in decades. I could be wrong, but not buy much. I did find some who hold "Soil Conservation" posts. BFD.
If the libertarians want to be relevant they shoud infiltrate the Republican Party and just take that over. I'm for some of their agenda, such as reducing government, but right now they've had nearly 40 years to make progress and they've failed.

The Greens. These guys are a mortal threat to the Democrats (socialists). Greens cost Gore the 2000 election with Nader and if the useless Republcans ever get their sorry behinds back in gear the Greens could once again act as spoilers for the Democrats.

So there you have it. You won't see the New Mexico Democratic Party make it any easier for them to lose seats, especially in 2010 when they'll get their tails whipped by the useless Republicans.
